At 9:30 we left Lipari and headed southeast to the strait of Messina. With the Charybdis on starboard and the Skyla on the portside we entered the strait at about 14:00 with the stream going south at about 2.5 knots. We had to take care to stay outside the traffic separation scheme but also avoid all the swordfish boats with their extra-long extensions on the bow. The wind in the strait changed direction a few times in the short way to Messina and increased to F4-F5 when we arrived in Marina Netuno just next to Messina’s commercial harbour. Getting into the box was quite adventurous because of the limited space. The “Marinero” had to push against the bow with the RIB in order to get us in. I will need him again tomorrow for leaving. By the way, this marina is by far the most expensive one all along the way from Holland: 88.00 Euro! If I knew this I would have bypassed it. Anyway, at least it has two toilets and one shower.

Messina mooring is a combination of going to a finger pontoon but also using laid mooring lines. This is important because of the swell running into the harbour caused by the ferries crossing the strait all night long

Hello Guus and Corry, for your trip on the Waddenzee and Northern Germany, I wish you allways fair winds and “eine Handbreit Wasser unter’m Kiel” as we say in Germany. There is almost no wind here as you have probably read in my blog and it is quite warm. Also, the humidity is very high as are mooring costs at almost no service. Anyway, it is an interresting experience and the trip till now quite exciting. Take care and enjoy your trip!

es hat mir viel Spaß gemacht deinen Blog zu verfolgen und ich wünsche dir noch eine gute und sichere Reise mit deiner letzten Crew und natürlich besonders für deinen allerletzten Trip allein an board. Mal sehen wie du die Stimmung in Griechenland erleben wirst. Es herrscht ja eine ziemliche Gereitzheit auf allen Seiten… Außer bei Herrn T., der lächelt immer (Galgenhumor?) Ich hoffe jedenfalls, dass sich mal bald eine Lösung findet.
Wenn du in Oropos bist, kommt dann das Hamburg an Matilda weg in sie wird griechisch :( ?
Wir fliegen heute abend nach Singapore unseren großen Sohn besuchen und nach Bali um dort über die Insel zu reisen. Falls wir dort ankommen. Im Moment sind so ziemlich alle Flüge wegen des Vulkanausbruchs auf Java gestrichen. Wünsch uns Glück!

Hallo Christiane, ich bin sicher dass es bis zu meiner Ankunft eine Lösung gefunden hat in GR :-) Wenn Matilda in Oropos angekommen ist bleibt sie natürlich in Hamburg registriert. Ich möcht so wenig wie möglich mit den griechischen Behörden zu tun haben. Alles ist dort um ein vielfaches komplizierter und es besteht kein Grund das Boot umzumelden. Viel Spass in Singapore und Bali, hört sich spannend an.

Hallo Dietrich, Die crew ist gelandet und war vor 13:00 an Bord. Nachdem etwas Proviant besorgt wurde und wir eine Pizza genossen hatten haben wir gleich abgelegt. Erst ohne Wind, dann mit Windstärke 5 sind wir in die Nacht gesegelt und rauschten mit 6 bis 7 knoten dahin (hast Du sicherlich verfolgt :-) ). Um 02:00 ist der Wind komplett eingeschlafen und die eiserne Genua musste wieder ran. Heute Nachmittag haben wir in La Castella angelegt. Grüße von der gesamten crew!
